Driving Lessons with ESM

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Enterprise School of Motoring for your driving lessons?

There are many driving instructors in the local area. It's very difficult for pupuls to know which one to choose in such a highly competitive field. Here are some reasons why I think you'll be glad you chose me:

What's the procedure for my first lesson?

I'lll pick you up from your chosen location and will firstly check your driving licence and then ask you to read a car number plate at a distance of approximately 21.5 Metres. If everything is in order, l'll then drive us to a quiet location.

By the end of the first lesson, you'll have learned the preparation for safe driving and how to move off and stop safely. You may also have gained some experience of changing through some gears.

How many driving lessons will I need?

It's very difficult to be exact, as each pupil is different and everyone learns at a different pace. On average, beginner pupils tend to need 40-50 hours of lessons. Some may require less, a few may need more.

Some pupils may have previous experience or may also be practicing their driving outside lesson time with a parent or other driver. These pupils are likely to require less, perhaps only half the number of lessons.

When should I book my Theory and Practical Tests?

You must pass your theory test before you can apply for your practical test .You will need to start studying for your theory test as soon as you start driving lessons. You'll find you become more confident with your practical driving if you've given plenty of time to learn your theory. The waiting list for theory tests is usually 3 to 4 weeks, and I will discuss the best time to book your practical test when we start your lessons.

Remember, test dates can always be moved back if you aren't ready or forwards if you're making better progress than expected. I'll happy to book the tests on your behalf.

Where will I take my tests?

Our local test centres are Stevenage and Letchworth, but there are many other test centres in the wider area that we can choose from.

Do you recommend any products to assist with the theory test?

Reading the Highway Code should always be your first stop, as it is the most important source of material. There are also many CD ROMs and DVDs on the market which can also help, but you should always buy products approved by the DSA.

Whose car do I use for the practical test?

My car will be made available for your test once we are both satisfied that you've reached the standard required to take the test.

What is the pass rate?

The pass rate for passing a practical driving test first time in the UK is between 40% and 50%. You stand a better chance if you've had 40+ lessons and/or practical experience with a parent or other driver.
